Here are some items the council will consider tonight:

STREAMING

VIDEO CONTRACT

Residents in Newport Beach and the rest of the world will be able

to see City Council meetings anywhere, anytime, if the council

approves a $42,367 contract with Granicus Inc. to provide streaming

video of council meetings on the Internet.

The city would also need to buy $7,000 worth of electronic

hardware to start the program, and ongoing maintenance costs would be

$1,400 a month.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A committee of three council members recommended moving ahead with

streaming video, and city officials believe it will help them better

distribute information to and get feedback from residents. The

council is likely to approve the contract.

COUNTY

PARK LAND

The city would grow geographically if the council votes to accept

ownership of various county-owned pieces of land including five small

“view parks” in Newport Coast and open space in Buck Gully and Los

Trancos and Muddy Creek canyons.

The parks are not well-maintained now, and the city has been

working to solve water-quality problems in the canyons. While the

city would bear more costs if it owned these lands, the costs are not

expected to be significant.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will probably agree to take over the property. Doing

so will give the city more control over maintenance of the parks and

water quality in the canyons, and the city will get revenue from the

cellular phone antennae in some of the parks.

The Orange County supervisors still would have to formally agree

to the land transfer.
