Amiee eyes breakthrough

Newport Beach resident Danielle Amiee and Pamela Crikelair will face
one another in Tuesday’s season finale of The Golf Channel’s popular
reality show, “The Big Break III: Ladies Only.”
Amiee and Crikelair remain from an original field of 10 women
golfers, who participate in a variety of challenges that test
physical skills and mental toughness.
The final episode will air at 9 p.m. Tuesday with the two golfers
vying for an opportunity to compete in select LPGA tournaments.
Amiee ousted Cindy Miller of Silver Creek, N.Y., after three holes
of stroke play in an elimination round that aired Tuesday. Amiee, who
practices often at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club, parred all three
holes, including an up and down from the sand on the par-4.
Miller trailed by one stroke heading into the par-3 final hole and
needed a birdie to tie Amiee, but missed a 15-foot putt.
Crikelair earned the right to sit out the elimination challenge
after winning the season’s final skills competition.
The skills challenge, in which the winner earns exemption from the
elimination challenge, was a two-part contest consisting of driving
and putting competitions.
Crikelair wasted little time in the putting challenge, sinking her
first putt from the first location. Amiee responded by two-putting
the opening spot, placing her one stroke down after the first hole.
The second hole was dead even, with both golfers finishing in three
strokes.
Crikelair all but closed out the challenge at the third location,
where her two-putt effort combined with Amiee’s 3 gave Crikelair a
nearly insurmountable two-stroke lead.
Golfers putted from four different locations on the green.
