WEEDS AND RUBBISH
The council is holding a special hearing to take complaints about
a new law regarding the regulation of weeds and trash on private
property.
State law allows the council to declare properties with oversized
weeds and trash buildup a public nuisance, especially if they
constitute a fire hazard.
If a resident is found to have oversized weeds on his or her
property, an official with the Public Work’s Department will post a
sign in the yard instructing him or her to clean up.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Property owners who have been identified by the city for not
complying with the resolution will be able to defend themselves at
Monday’s hearings. City officials estimate that 168 parcels in the
city could be, or already are, in violation of the weed abatement
ordinance.
POLICE COMMAND VEHICLE
The council will be asked to approve a proposal to accept a grant
from Santa Ana Urban Area Security Initiative to purchase a $550,000
police command vehicle
WHAT TO EXPECT
The council will likely approve the purchase, which appears on the
consent agenda. The city will purchase the command vehicle with money
from the general fund, then repay the fund with money from the grant.
ELEVATORS
The City Council will be asked to approve the expenditure of
$300,000 to replace City Hall’s elevator control system.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The item is on the council’s consent agenda and will likely pass.
