Red Sox knock off Dodgers, 9-6

Zack Gates hit a three-run home run in his first plate appearance,
and it proved to be the difference as the Red Sox downed the Dodgers,
9-6, in Ocean View Little League Minor A Division action.
Gates recorded his home run in the top of the first inning,
although the Dodgers responded with three runs in the bottom-half of
the frame.
The Red Sox scored three runs in the fourth inning to pull ahead
for good.
Gates, Dee Atwood and David Feirstein pitched for the Red Sox.
Offensively, Feirstein, Atwood and Trevor Braff each scored twice
and Andrew Davis walked twice and scored a run for the Red Sox.
In other Minor A Division action:
Dodgers, 5; Padres, 5
Andrew Arledge had a leadoff double in the sixth inning and scored
on a single by Zack Lopez as the Dodgers rallied to tie the Padres.
The Dodgers attempted to take the lead by catching the Padres
defense off-guard, when baserunner Grant Peugh attempted to steal
home as Padres pitcher Branden Wells returned to the mound. But
quick-acting Padres shortstop Alec Vilallobos raced to cover home
plate, and successfully laid the tag to preserve the tie.
Connor Hurst went three for three with an RBI for the Dodgers and
also held the Padres scoreless in the sixth inning. Chris Smith
recorded eight strikeouts in three innings on the mound for the
Dodgers and also had a single.
The Padres’ Wyatt Albert pitched three scoreless innings and
allowed one hit while striking out seven Dodgers. Albert also doubled
in the first inning, which led to the Padres’ first two runs.
Angels, 11; Reds, 3
Angels’ pitchers Devin King, Tyler Mildenberg, Evan Archer and
Jacob Pascoe combined to strike out 12 of the 23 batters they faced.
Offensively, the Angels racked up 11 hits. Thomas Gross tripled,
Archer and Michelle Roe combined for three doubles, and Pascoe,
Gross, King and Angelo Abbadessa combined for seven singles.
Abbadessa, Gross and Richard Bray each drove in a run.
Astros, 8; Giants, 2
The Astros handed the Giants their first loss of the season behind
the strong pitching and timely hitting of Max Gibbs.
Gibbs pitched the first three innings and recorded six strikeouts.
Offensively, he doubled and singled in three trips to the plate.
Robert Cornwell and Troy Gross each had hits for the Giants.
Giants, 21; Yankees, 5
The Giants broke out of a mini-hitting slump by producing 14 hits
in the victory.
Jake Bauers went three for four with a triple, Grant Mayeaux went
three for four with a double, Dane Perkins doubled twice and singled,
and Troy Gross went three for four.
Bauers pitched the first three innings and struck out four, and
Perkins threw the final two innings and struck out three.
John Weber, Adam Vargas and Leland Morehand each had hits for the
Yankees.
At Seaview Little League:
Yankees, 7; Angels, 6
Frankie Calleros came up with a home run in the bottom of the
seventh inning to cap the Yankees’ comeback victory.
The Angels had taken a 6-0 lead in the top of the second inning,
before the Yankees began to rally and closed to within 6-5 in the
sixth inning.
David Mastro was hit by a pitch, and then stole three bases to tie
the score.
