Playing without captain Marcus Sostak, the Estancia High boys golf
team slugged out a 233-283 Golden West League victory over visiting
Orange Tuesday at Mesa Verde Country Club.
Greg Les shot 44 to earn medalist honors for the Eagles (8-8, 4-0
in league), while Garrett McMasters (46), Ryan Gleason (47), Andrew
Ayala (48) and Austin Serr (48) notched scores for Estancia.
Sostak has a hairline fracture in his hand, Estancia Coach Art
Perry said, and will be back in the lineup in about a week.
He unofficially played seven holes Tuesday, with more or less one
hand, Perry said.
The Eagles visit Westminster at Meadowlark Golf Course at 3 p.m.
Thursday.
Pemstein is co-medalist
Senior Davis Pemstein shot a 1-over-par 37 to earn co-medalist
honors and lead the host Newport Harbor High boys golf team to a
195-212 Sea View League victory over Laguna Hills Tuesday at Big
Canyon Country Club.
Pemstein bogeyed one hole while hitting par on the rest to tie
Laguna Hills’ Mitch McCarthy for the top score.
Pemstein has earned medalist or co-medalist honors nine times this
season, Newport Harbor Coach Scott Tarnow said. He won the honor in
three consecutive matches dating from March 23 to March 29, against
El Toro, Woodbridge and Irvine.
Senior Rhett Palmer shot 38 for the Sailors (8-6, 4-1 in league),
while Spencer Quinn (39), Paul Nest (39) and Justin Morehead (42)
tallied scores for Newport.
Newport plays Western at 3 p.m. today at Santa Ana Country Club.
Sage tops Eagles
The host Sage Hill School boys golf team defeated Capistrano
Valley Christian, 227-239, in an Academy League match Tuesday at
Strawberry Farms Golf Club.
Josh Chen birdied the fourth and ninth holes while shooting three
pars to tally 4-over 40, earning medalist honors for the Lightning
(5-2, 3-0 in league).
It is the second match this season Chen has won medalist honors,
as he shot a 4-over 40 in a March 22 league win over Oxford Academy.
Geoffrey Grant (41), Ryan Babbush (45), John Neff (50) and Rory
Foubister (51) tallied scores for Sage.
The Eagles fall to 7-4, 2-2.
