A Tustin man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he drove
drunk, crashing through the front window of a Costa Mesa restaurant.
Police say that a Toyota Corolla driven by Juan Jose Galicia, 21,
smashed into a Norm’s restaurant at Harbor Boulevard and Victoria
Street just after 1 a.m. Sunday. He was arrested at the scene on
suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving
without a license.
Two passengers in Galicia’s car -- a 40-year-old woman from Dana
Point and a 10-year-old child -- were slightly injured in the crash,
Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Bob Ciszek said.
A 20-year-old Yucaipa woman inside the restaurant was also
slightly injured by some debris, Ciszek said.
Witnesses reported that Galicia ran a red light while driving east
on Victoria Street early Sunday morning, police said. A Toyota Land
Cruiser driving south on Harbor Boulevard struck Galicia’s Corolla,
sending it into the north window of Norm’s, Ciszek said.
Galicia is being held in the Orange County Jail in lieu of
$100,000 bail.
