Eagles earn first victory
The Estancia High baseball team rode a five-run third inning to an
8-5 win, its first of the season, at Santa Ana Monday.
Taylor McClanahan pitched a complete game for the Eagles, striking
out three and scattering 10 hits.
Dustin Stone had a three-run double in the third to go with Mike
McDaniels’ RBI triple and Tim Morley’s RBI single that produced a 7-3
lead.
Zack Oliver went 2 for 3 and Kane Curran went 2 for 4 as every
Estancia starter had a hit.
The Eagles improved to 1-12, 1-2. Santa Ana fell to 10-6, 2-2.

Pemstein stands out
* GOLF: Newport Harbor High senior Davis Pemstein shot 1-over-par
72 to finish tied for fourth among 140 boys golfers at the De La
Salle invitational at Diablo Country Club in Danville, Calif. Monday.
Pemstein had four birdies and five bogeys to distinguish himself
in one of the state’s most prestigious prep tournaments.
Justin Moorehead (78), Brandon Sowers (81) and Rhett Palmer (86)
were among the Sailors’ other participants.
Doubles lift Estancia
* SOFTBALL: The Estancia High softball team used RBI doubles from
Hilary Ockey and Heather Morton to beat host Sage Hill, 4-1, Monday
in a nonleague game.
Muriel Mason earned her fifth win of the season by striking out
four batters in four innings.
Estancia (7-4) play at Saddleback Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. in a
Golden West League game.
Pirates procure split
* SOFTBALL: Orange Coast College freshman Laura Van Moorleghem
threw a complete-game four-hitter to help the Pirates defeat visiting
Citrus, 4-1, in the second game of a nonconference softball
doubleheader Monday.
OCC, which dropped the opener, 9-0, improved to 2-24.
Van Moorleghem surrendered one run to earn her second win of the
season as Ashleigh Miller and Heather Walker each went 2 for 3 for
OCC. Walker, Kim Ensey and Alexandra Wilson all drove in runs for the
Pirates.
Citrus is now 20-18.
UCI stings Hornets
* TENNIS: The UC Irvine men’s tennis team dominated visiting
Sacramento State Monday for a 7-0 nonconference victory.
UCI’s Rye Kashiwabara defeated Thomas Morton, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2
singles to lead the Anteaters, who end the regular season 12-8.
UCI will compete next at the Big West Conference championships,
April 21-24.
Lions sweep Broncos
* TENNIS: The Vanguard University men’s and women’s tennis teams
each earned 8-1 victories over visiting Cal Poly Pomona Monday at the
Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
Vanguard’s No. 2-ranked women’s team (17-3) was led by Alena
Votavova and Olivia Amstad, who both won, 6-0, 6-0, in singles and
combined for an 8-3 doubles triumph.
The No. 5-ranked VU men improved to 12-4.
Anteaters finish sixth
* GOLF: UC Irvine junior Angela Won was 17th to help the Anteaters’ women’s golf team finish sixth at the Peg Barnard
California collegiate, completed Sunday at Stanford University.
Won shot 2-under-par 70 in the final round to finish with a
36-hole total of 151.
Freshmen Jane Chin (79-74--153) and Selanee Henderson (80-73--153)
tied for 24th for UCI, while freshman Kim Lorenzana (82-77--159) was
41st and junior Carling Cho (80-8--161) was 47th for the Anteaters.
Washington (587) earned the team title, 27 shots better than
