Here are some items the Planning Commission will consider Monday.

STATE PROPERTY REZONING

The commission will decide whether to slightly lower the zoning

density of a 5-acre piece of state-owned property at the Fairview

Developmental Center. The Harbor Boulevard land is considered

surplus, and the state has been proffering it to developers with the

hope of making some money from the sale.

The land now bears high-density zoning -- allowing up to 100 units

on the property -- but a previous City Council planned to rezone it

for public/institutional use to encourage more public land uses in

the city. The state opposed any zoning change that would diminish the

property’s sale value.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The current City Council decided in February to pursue a slightly

lower density than the property now has -- up to 60 residential units

could be built -- and the commission will address that

recommendation.

ELDER CARE

FACILITY

A 16-bed assisted-living center would be built on East 23rd Street

near Orange Avenue if the commission approves a permit for the

facility. Three or four caretakers and a registered nurse would be

employed there and visiting hours would be held during the daytime.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The plans meet standards for residential development, and the city

already has approved two facilities of similar size on properties

with the same zoning, so staff members recommend the commission

approve the project.
