Walk in Woods Cove
The Laguna Beach Garden Club is planning its first-ever walking tour
that includes entry into seven private gardens in the historic Woods
Cove neighborhood.
The tour takes place May 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This is the first year the Garden Club has tried a walking tour.
Tour participants will take a trolley to a little-known street beside
Bluebird Canyon to start. The route covers just more than half a mile
of mostly level or downhill, paved city streets.
“We are excited by the garden selections,” said Patricia Weier,
co-chair with Gayle Whitaker of this year’s tour. “We have some
surprises for tour-goers.”
Woods Cove was selected because it includes a rich concentration
of older homes nestled in gently rolling terrain, which gives one a
sense of earlier days in Laguna.
The route meanders from a hobbit-like home to the sea, past
well-tended gardens of beach cottages, old and new.
Ticket holders will be welcomed into gardens with eclectic styles,
from a lush jungle to an austere desert, from a joyous riot of color
to a serene, park-like pocket of old Laguna.
Admittance is by advance ticket sales only. Tickets are $25, which
includes entry to gardens, a brochure with map, a trolley ride to the
start and pick-up at the end of the tour, refreshments in the park
and one opportunity to win a prize in a drawing.
Tour tickets can be purchased at Laguna Drug, 239 Broadway (free
parking lot on Ocean Ave.), www.lagunabeachgarden club.org, or by
calling (949) 836-8143.
