Girls tumble to win
Athletes from SCATS Gymnastics in Huntington Beach won several
individual medals and captured a bronze team trophy at last weekend’s
state championships in Long Beach.
In Level 10 action, Nicole Day’s score of 37.95 earned her the
division’s all-around title and gold medal. Day became the state
champion on the uneven bars and balance beam and received silver
medals in the vault and floor exercise.
Teammate Kiara Redmond won the all-around in her age division,
with a 37.75, and claimed state-champion status on vault, bars and
floor. She also won silver on the beam.
Thomasina Wallace was another Level 10 medal winner for SCATS with
a silver in the floor exercise and a bronze in the vault.
The Level 10 team won the bronze.
In Level 9, SCATS’ Loni Ricci’s score of 9.0 on the vault earned
her a gold medal, and teammate Kara Sevilla won the bronze.
Day, Redmond, Wallace and Colleen McCall will represent SCATS
Gymnastics at regional competitions later this month.
In the Level 7 competition, SCATS’ Noelle Yoo took first in the
all-around, first on balance bars and first on floor. In the
10-year-old age group, Hope Glenn was second all-around and won
silver on beam and floor. Kirstie Yee rounded out the SCATS medalists
with a silver medal on the bars.
