Ventura blanks Eagles
Estancia High sophomore Blake Pinto struck out three, walked only one
and scattered eight hits in his first varsity start Wednesday, but
Ventura posted a 4-0 victory to claim seventh place in the eight-team
Pride of the Coast baseball tournament at Corona del Mar High.
Evan Van Geem finished 2 for 3 with a double while catcher Tim
Morley also doubled for Estancia (0-12), which tallied five hits and
left two runners at third. Kane Curran and Dustin Stone added singles
for the Eagles in a game that featured no errors on either side.
Alan Turner went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Jose Vargas added a
solo home run in the fourth inning for Ventura (5-10-1).
Riverside tops Pirates
* SOFTBALL: The Orange Coast College softball team fell, 17-2, to
visiting Riverside in Orange Empire Conference play Wednesday.
OCC (1-24, 0-12 in conference) gave up 11 runs in the third
inning.
Cassidy sparks OCC
* GOLF: The Orange Coast College men’s golf team fell to
Saddleback, 380-407, in Orange Empire Conference play Wednesday at
Tijeras Creek.
OCC’s Jason Cassidy shot 76 at the par-72 course, while Andrew
Flour (77), Chris Larson (85), Justin Gray (86) and Peter Baker
competed for the Pirates (3-9).
