Cubiero leads Yankees

Sam Cubiero recorded 10 strikeouts and pitched a complete game in the

Yankees’ 6-5 victory over the Mariners Saturday in a Newport Beach

Little League Majors division baseball game.

Brian Ford went 2 for 2 at the plate for the Yankees, with a

double and three runs scored, while Chip Zucker was 2 for 3 with a

triple and two runs scored. Eric Morris was 2 for 2 with a triple and

a run scored, and Cubiero also contributed a two-run double.

Evan Daniele pitched for the Mariners, throwing 11 strikeouts in four innings. The Mariners’ offense was led by Chris Freeman, Max

Carpenter, Liam Duddy and Michael Haeri.

In other Newport Beach Little League play:

* Yankees 8, A’s 2

Eric Morris went the distance for the Yankees, throwing 12

strikeouts and allowing only three hits in six innings, and the

Yankees went on to defeat the A’s, 8-2, in a Majors division baseball

game.

The Yankees notched 14 hits behind the batting of Brian Ford (two

doubles), Reign DeLuca, Chip Zucker, Brian Smith, Chase Favreau and

Morris.

The A’s Mitch Gardner collected eight strikeouts in four inning,

while Drew Blumenthal had two hits and Bryce Ashton had a single.

* Angels 11, A’s 0

Sandon Griffin tossed a no-hitter to lead the Angels past the A’s,

11-0, in a Majors division baseball game Saturday. Griffin had seven

strikeouts.

The Angels’ hitting was led by Cort Hastings, Nathan Wagner,

Daniel Noto, Austin Barvin and Matt Burt. Hastings finished 3 for 3

and Noto was 2 for 2.

In Costa Mesa National Little League play:

* Dodgers 7, Mets 6

The Dodgers rallied with four runs in the top of the sixth inning

to defeat the Mets, 7-6, Tuesday in a Minor-A baseball game.

The Mets had scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth on key

hits by Sammy Borkton, Aaron Wood, Jesse Paz, Brandon Kingsley and

Christian Aguilar. Dodger centerfielder Brad Wilson ended the Mets

rally with a diving catch.

The Mets had quality pitching performances by Aaron Wood,

Christian Aguilar and Jesse Paz.

* Cardinals 11, Pirates 7

Ryan West and Matt Jarmacz led the Cardinals to a 11-7 victory

over the Pirates Saturday. West had two doubles, scored three runs

and gave up only three runs in three innings of relief pitching while

Jarmacz had a single, double, triple and three RBIs for the Cardinals

(1-0), who scored six runs in the fourth inning.

The Pirates were led by Brian Burciaga, who gave up two runs in

three innings on the mound, Rex Ranieri, who had three hits, Ben Beck

and Johnathan Ball, who each had a single and a double. Pirate

leftfielder Tyler Tashiro saved at least two runs by catching a fly

ball with the bases loaded.

* Rockies, Cubs

The Rockies’ bats were hot against the Cubs in tee ball Major

play. Justin Martinez had doubles in the first and second innings.

Christian Ferrara, Ian Fowler, Rikki Hernandez, Connor Hamm and

Christian Pruitt each finished 2 for 2. Christian Muniz and Gage

Grupenhagen each had a hit and an RBI.

Leftfielder Raleigh Lynaugh stopped several grounders while Travis

Hastings consistently made key defensive plays at first and

shortstop.
