Newport Beach’s own in final four

Newport Beach resident Danielle Amiee is among the final four of 10
original contestants after seven episodes of the Golf Channel’s “Big
Break III: Ladies Only,” a weekly television series that pits women
golfers against one another in various skill competitions.
Amiee, who competes on the Futures mini tour and calls Costa Mesa
Golf & Country Club her home course, along with Liz Uthoff, Cindy
Miller and Pam Crikelair, survived to play another week following the
March 23 episode.
The grand-prize winner will receive entry into select LPGA
tournaments, including the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill May 5-8,
and the LPGA Corning Classic, May 26-29.
The four survived after completing the final event of the round, a
putting contest from 24 feet on a slick green. The player who had the
highest accumulated total putts would be eliminated.
All four ladies, along with Valeria Ochoa, two-putted their first
two holes.
Amiee, Crikelair, Miller and Uthoff all followed suit with two
putts on the final two holes and Ochoa bowed out when she
three-putted.
Golfers also participated in another skills challenge with the
theme of college basketball’s “March Madness” in mind.
The ladies played a golf version of the basketball game H-O-R-S-E.
Each player got to choose a shot to play and whoever finished
closest to the pin on that shot wouldn’t receive a letter.
In addition to that, they handed out an extra letter to whomever
she felt needed one. The player who spelled B-R-E-A-K first would be
eliminated until one player was left standing and that player would
the win the immunity.
Miller locked up yet another immunity by getting closest to the
pin on Crikelair’s bunker shot to win the skills challenge. It was
her third straight show in which she won the exemption.
Another exercise had golfers each hitting through an opening much
like that of a doorway to a green 80 yards away. They all hit from
the first spot and the one finishing the furthest away would be
ousted.
The same format was used in the second round. For the third and
fourth rounds, the golfer whose shot landed closest to the pin would
secure a mulligan.
The next elimination episode airs Tuesday at 9 p.m.
Amiee began her professional golf career in 2000 after attending
Long Beach State, where she played on the women’s golf team.
Her best finish on the Futures tour is 22nd.
