OCC doubles up
The Orange Coast College men’s tennis team handily defeated visiting
Riverside, 9-0, in Orange Empire Conference play Tuesday, while the
women won, 8-1, to complete a Pirate sweep.
With the win, the Coast men improve to 11-3, 9-3 in the OEC, and
Riverside falls to 7-9, 3-7.
Hiroshi Muto swept his match at No. 3 singles without losing a
single game (6-0, 6-0) for Orange Coast, while Jared Hayley won his
match, 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 1 singles, Colby Morita won his match, 6-0, 6-2, and
Spencer Soloman won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Victor Jacobs rallied
from a first-set loss to win his match, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 6
singles, and Scott Fielder won at No. 7 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
The Pirates play a makeup match at 1 p.m. today at Fullerton.
The OCC women’s tennis team finished regular-season play 13-1, 9-1
in conference, and tied for first with Saddleback. Riverside finished
tied for third with Irvine Valley.
Michelle Esquivel won her match, 6-3, 6-0, to remain undefeated in
the conference in singles. OCC opens play in the conference
tournament beginning at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cypress College.
