Lifeguards make several rescues
The Newport Beach Lifeguards had a busy Sunday, rescuing several
people from the water.
Lifeguard Capt. Jim Turner said there are larger crowds flocking
to the beach because it’s spring break season, and many come from out
of state.
“We’ve probably rescued five or six people already today,” he
said.
Turner said that the people rescued were more than likely weak
swimmers or did not know how to take care of themselves in a rip
current. Most people don’t know the basic rule of dealing with rip
currents, which is to swim sideways until you’re out of it, he said,
and then you can safely swim to shore.
