PTA spring training

Kathy Selevan

When a person joins the PTA at a local school they become a member of

a much larger family. All members of the PTAs at our schools also

belong to the local PTA Council, the Fourth District PTA, the

California State PTA and the National PTA. Members who are willing to

get involved at any level are a valuable resource for starting and

maintaining programs and projects to benefit our children and the

community.

The Laguna Beach Council is one of 21 councils that works with the

Fourth District PTA to provide conferences, leadership training, and

to coordinate the work of the units with other agencies and

organizations in the area to work on behalf of our children and

youth.

An example of this is the spring and fall leadership training

offered by the 4th District to help specific program chairpersons and

officers, but that is open to all PTA members. Such topics include;

financial basics, bylaws and parliamentarian procedures, legislation,

presidential basics, and keeping legal records.

This year, a new workshop will be presented on PTA newsletters and

websites. Training this spring will be May 24 in the morning and May

25 in the evening at Tustin Avenue in Santa Ana. Child care is

provided at the evening session for children over 3. Sessions in

Spanish will also be available. For information contact your school

PTA or go to https://www.fourthdistrict pta.org.

The total membership of the PTAs in Laguna Beach is over 2,000.

These members last year donated 51,681 volunteer hours helping our

children, youth and schools. At a minimum wage level this represents

a gift of approximately $353,615 of labor for our schools!
