Griffin keys Angels
Sandon Griffin threw the final three innings, allowing no runs while
striking out four and walking two to help lead the Newport Beach
Little League Angels past the Padres, 4-3, in a Majors division
baseball game this past weekend.
Griffin also scored two runs, including the winning run in the
last inning after his leadoff double to centerfield. Cort Hastings
and Nathan Wagner had key hits as well for the Angels, who have won
four straight.
Griffin has now struck out 40 batters in 19 innings, walking nine
and yielding just one earned run. He is 2-0, including a
complete-game no-hitter on March 17. His nine-inning no-hit streak
was ended on a bloop single to right field Saturday by the Padres’
Steven Moorehead. Griffin is hitting .429 at the plate.

* Cardinals, Pirates
The Cardinals and the Pirates faced off in a Shetland National
baseball game Saturday, with Austin Payne leading the way for the
Cards. Payne had an RBI shot to right field that advanced P.J.
Rollins and Matthew Fisher and brought in Chad Deegan, all of whom
had hits. Malcolm Davis and Barron Banta excelled in the field.
* Back Bay Funding 5, Wide Open 4
Kyle Flagg had three hits and two RBIs to lead Back Bay Funding
over Wide Open, 5-4, in a Mustang division baseball game March 19.
Steven Duhoux had a hit and two RBIs while Cole Chapin and Robert
Lyons contributed offensively with base hits. Kory Cably got the win
with two scoreless innings and six strikeouts. Jake Prater, Bryan
Shollin, Nathan Mayhugh and Garrett Byers all aided in the win.
* Back Bay Funding 7, Islands 1
Robert Lyons had three hits and four RBIs to lead Back Bay Funding
over Islands, 7-1, in a Mustang division baseball game March 20.
Lyons’ bases-loaded triple led to a five-run third inning. Steven
Duhoux and Zachary Wade also had triples to lead to the offense.
Pitchers Kyle Flagg, Lyons and Kory Cably, pitched scoreless innings.
Bryan Shollin, Jake Prater, Garrett Byers and Nathan Mayhugh all
aided in the win.
