Wright caps season in All-CIF fashion
Sage Hill School junior Haywood Wright was selected to the girls
basketball All-CIF Southern Section Division IV-A second team. The
selections were released Tuesday.
Wright, also chosen Daily Pilot Player of the Year, averaged 13.1
points, 13.2 rebounds and helped lead the Lightning to a quarterfinal
playoff appearance, the deepest the school has ever gone in the
postseason.
The 6-foot-1 guard led the team with 81 blocks and 59 steals,
while providing a mixture of an inside and outside game that was
tough for opposers to match up against. Her 81 blocks was the most in
the Academy League and she was second in the league in rebounding.
Wright scored a season-high 21 points in a 64-32 league-opening
win against Oxford Academy on Jan. 7.
Sage had wins over Buckley and Woodcrest Christian in the first
and second rounds of the postseason before falling to eventual
champion Brentwood in the quarterfinals.
The Lightning finished the season 14-9, 8-2 for a share of first
in league with Brethren Christian.
