NAC rowers post victories
Rowers representing the Newport Aquatic Center won four races, two
each by the men and the women, and the men earned the overall team
points title at the San Diego Cal Cup competition March 19.
NAC won the men’s varsity eight, as well as the novice four
events, while the NAC women were victorious in the varsity eight and
the freshman eight races.
The men’s varsity eight included Ogi Zivojnovic, Alex Powell, Kean
O’Shea, Ryan Grafft, Morgan Sabo, Erik Oatman, Blake Foster, Frank
Lewis and coxswain James Monahan.
The men’s novice four consisted of Buck Evans, Matt Schnieder,
Michael Glaad, Carmin Cimini and coxswain Bree Farmer.
The women’s varsity eight victory was achieved by Ashley Kiley,
Christina King, Marjon Bahremand, Chelsea Anaya, Paige Distanislao,
Nicole Marquand, Christina Campbell, Kristin D and coxswain Kristin
Collins.
The women’s freshman eight included Katherine Saunder, Ailbhe
Maguire, Olivia Dahan, Maxine Rhodenhuis, Charlette Kroger, Lauren
King, Grace Shorey, Stephanie Stone and coxswain Arianna Barbatti.
The men’s junior varsity eight (B boat) finished second, while the
men’s varsity C finished third for NAC.
NAC’s men’s freshman novice four earned a third-place finish.
NAC’s women’s novice four finished second and the women’s varsity
eight B was third.
Chandy double winner
* TRACK AND FIELD: Sage Hill School junior Zach Chandy won the 100
meters and the 200 at the Surf City track and field invitational
Saturday at Huntington Beach High.
Chandy, who finished second last spring in the 200 and 400 at the
CIF Southern Section Division IV finals, and is the reigning Academy
League champion in the 100, topped the 100 field Saturday in 10.81
seconds.
His winning time in the 200 was 21.78.
