Gang-rape trial gets verdict second time
A jury on Wednesday convicted the son of a former sheriff’s
official and his two friends guilty on 15 of 27 counts of sexual
assault in the retrial of a high-profile gang-rape case.
Greg Haidl, son of former Orange County Assistant Sheriff Don
Haidl, and Rancho Cucamonga residents Keith Spann and Kyle Nachreiner
were accused of gang-raping an unconscious 16-year-old girl in
Haidl’s Corona del Mar home when they were teens and sexually
assaulting her with various objects. Each faces more than a dozen
years in prison in connection with the videotaped 2002 incident.
* A Corona del Mar woman is in jail awaiting sentencing after a
jury convicted her Thursday on three counts of attempted lewd acts
upon a child.
Victoria Hawlish, 41, was found not guilty of five charged counts
of lewd acts upon a child, but jurors found her guilty on the lesser
charges of attempted lewd acts on three of the counts. Hawlish was
accused of inappropriately touching a teenage girl who lived with her
in 2003 and faces up to two years, eight months in prison.
