Political science major honored
Shana Jenkins, a 19-year-old political science major at Orange
Coast College, has been named to the 2005 Phi Beta Kappa
All-California Academic First Team, an honor reserved for only 30
community college students statewide.
An active member of the campus student government program, Jenkins
has served on Orange Coast College’s Planning and Budget Committee
and Alumni Hall of Fame Committee, and holds a post on the Coast
Community College District Student Council. This spring, she is in
charge of her college’s High School Scholarship Program.
She and the other members of the Phi Beta Kappa team will be
honored at an awards luncheon in Sacramento on April 7.
Seeking volunteers
The Orange County Transportation Authority wants volunteers to
serve on its Citizens Advisory Committee, a 34-member group that
gives input on transportation projects and acts as a liaison between
the transportation authority and the public. Members of the citizens
committee are unpaid and must devote at least 20 hours a year to OCTA
activities. They serve one- or two-year terms.
The deadline to apply for the 2005 term is April 11. For more
information call Kelly Hart at (714) 560-5725 or send an e-mail to
[email protected]. The application is available online at
https://www.octa.net.
