Members returned to tee off at Newport Beach Country Club Tuesday
while crews continued the takedown and cleanup process from the
Toshiba Senior Classic, which concluded Sunday.
Tournament crews have removed all bleachers and will shift their
efforts to dismantling skyboxes and tents for storage, along with
repairing parking lots and areas of the golf course, Marc Sorgatz,
tournament operations manager said.
They hurriedly removed trailers from the volunteer village and
took down remaining leaderboards before the rains hit Tuesday
afternoon.
“It’s about a two-week removal process,” Sorgatz, who averaged
14-hour days for the last two weeks, said. “It’s a mad rush, like a
circus. It takes a lot longer to put up than take down.”
Sorgatz said a major task will be removing flooring from tents and
other structures that have rested on the course for the past several
weeks.
Grass in those areas has gone dormant, so allowing it to grow
again is a high priority, Sorgatz said.
Sorgatz said cleanup shouldn’t be affected by the rain.
