Three locals South All-Stars

Estancia High senior Carlos Pinto, the Golden West League Most
Valuable Player, is among three Newport-Mesa standouts selected to
play in the Orange County High School All-Star boys and girls
basketball games, April 16 at Orange Coast College.
Newport Harbor standout Brett Perrine will join Pinto on the South
boys roster, while Newport Harbor senior Vanessa Miller will compete
for the South girls.
Pinto, a 6-foot-4 forward, averaged 20 points per game to lead the
Eagles to the Golden West League championship. A four-year varsity
performer, Pinto helped Estancia advance to the CIF Southern Section
Division III-A semifinals, where the lost to Harvard-Westlake to
finish 23-6.
Pinto had 42 three-pointers.
Perrine, a 6-6 forward, averaged 14.3 points to help the Sailors
(17-10) finish second in the Sea View League and advance to the
second round of the CIF Division II-AA playoffs.
The 5-6 Miller averaged 12.3 points for Coach Jen Thompson’s Tars,
who earned an at-large berth to the CIF Division II-AA playoffs,
before falling in the wild-card game to finish 11-16.
Miller’s 23 three-pointers led the team.
The games, proceeds from which go to charities, are sponsored by
the Costa Mesa Downtown Kiwanis and PlyoCity.
The girls game is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the boys game at 8
p.m.
