Driver arrested after crash in Newport
A driver suffered minor injuries early Saturday morning when his
2001 Nissan sedan crashed into a guardrail and overturned onto its
roof near Talbert Park in Newport Beach.
Balasubramanian Ramachandran, 30, of Irvine, was later arrested on
suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Ramachandran was driving westbound on 19th Street at around 1:15
a.m. when he failed to make a sharp right turn and crashed into the
rail, according to Newport Beach Police Sgt. Mark Hamilton.
Neighbors heard the crash and called the Newport Beach Police and
Newport Beach Fire departments. Both arrived on the scene minutes
later, said Hamilton, who was also called to the scene.
Ramachandran was pulled out of his vehicle and taken to Western
Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was later released.
