Breakers drop pair of games
Stepping away from play in the Costa Mesa Tournament, the Laguna
Beach High softball team took on Estancia and Sage Hill in a pair of
nonleague games this past week.
Laguna dropped both contests, losing, 10-1, at home against
Estancia Tuesday, and dropping an 8-0 decision Thursday to Sage Hill.
The Breakers were locked in a tight ballgame with Estancia heading
into the fourth inning, where the Eagles clung to a 2-1 lead.
But Estancia broke the game open in its fourth at-bat, getting
five runs on four hits while taking advantage of three Laguna
fielding errors.
Laguna, which had struggled a bit offensively, began to show life
at the plate as Lauren Delgado, Meagan McCulough and Anne Olson, a
trio at the top of the Breakers’ batting order, each produced two
hits of the Eagles’ Muriel Mason, who struck out nine in seven
innings.
Mason aided her cause by going four for four with an RBI, and
Allison Wyman hit her fourth home run of the season, to lead
Estancia.
In its previous game, an 8-0 loss to Sage Hill, Laguna again was
sluggish on offense, mustering one hit against the host Lightning.
That hit was a single by Delgado.
Laguna returns to the diamond today to host Capistrano Valley
Christian in a 3:15 p.m. nonleague game.
The Breakers have two more nonleague games scheduled in the coming
week. They host St. Margaret’s Tuesday, then host Brethren Christian
on Thursday.
Both games start at 3:15 p.m.
