Laguna wins title
The Laguna Beach Water Polo Club girls’ 12-and-under squad won the
Laguna Beach Tournament Sunday by defeating Capistrano Valley, 15-2,
in the final.
Laguna led from the start in handling Capo Valley, as first
quarter goals by Jessie Shusko and Etianne Manetta gave the host team
a 2-0 lead.
Shusko netted two more goals in the second quarter for a 4-2 lead,
then Laguna broke the match open by outscoring Capo Valley, 8-0, in
the third quarter.
During the scoring onslaught, Laguna was led by Yoshi Anderson’s
six goals, and one each by Riley Duncan and Shusko.
Manetta and Shusko each scored in the fourth quarter.
Laguna had opened the tournament Sunday with a 13-2 rout of San Clemente.
Again, Laguna never trailed, as it bolted out to leads of 4-0 and
9-0.
Shusko led Laguna with three goals, followed by Anderson, Duncan
and Jessie Holechek with two each.
Laguna’s next outing resulted in a 9-1 defeat of Newport Beach.
Laguna led, 3-0, after one quarter, and held a comfortable, 6-1
lead through two quarters.
Holechek and Melena Masson paced Laguna with two goals apiece.
Duncan, Kaitlyn Waidley and Ana Carrette also scored.
