Jog-a-thon fundraiser today

El Morro Elementary School PTA’s largest fundraiser, the annual

jog-a-thon, will be from 8:30 to 11:20 a.m. today. Donations are

still needed and will support PTA funded educational programs. For

Laguna High class of 2006 fundraiser

To support the Laguna Beach High School class of 2006, a

fundraiser will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The event will be at

the Sandpiper, 1183 S. Coast Highway, and will include an opportunity

drawing, cocktails, food and music by Stu Pearlman and friends.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For information, call

Park Avenue Players present play

The Laguna Beach Park Avenue Players will present the 1960’s

musical “Bye Bye Birdie” at the Laguna Beach High School Artist’s

Theatre, 625 Park Ave., 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m.

Two LBHS students win ‘Battle of the Bands’

Laguna Beach High School freshman guitarist Justin Drucker and

sophomore drummer Max McDonald won first place at the annual high

school “Battle of the Bands” hosted by Newport Harbor High School

Saturday. Concorde, the winning band, played a cover song by Ozzie

Osborne and another song of their own composition.

More than 1,000 people attended the event to hear 12 rock-style

high school bands compete for the title. A panel of professional

musicians judged the bands.

School district’s Darrin Reed makes history

On March 12, Darrin Reed, executive assistant to Supt. Theresa

Daem, made history when he became the first mansworn in as

president-elect to the California Assn. of Educational Office

Professionals in its 55-year history. The group holds an annual

statewide conference, among other activities.

In November 2004, Reed founded a local affiliate called Orange

County Assn. of Educational Office Professionals for Orange County.

“It promotes professional development, networking and public

service in the school district in Orange County,” Reed said. “It has

enhanced my growth professionally in major ways.”

The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. March 21 at the district

offices of the Capistrano, Laguna Beach Regional Occupation Program,

31522 El Camino Real, in San Juan Capistrano. For information, call

UCI Reading Certificate Program for teachers

UC Irvine Extension’s newly developed Reading Certificate Program

was approved by the state of California’s Commission on Teacher

Credentialing Committee on Accreditation.

LBUSD offers adult education classes

Laguna Beach Unified School District is offering adult education

programs. “English as a Second Language,” meets from 5:30 to 8:30

p.m. Monday through Thursday in room 90. The class is free.
