Locals capture gold and more at Winter Games
Five Huntington Beach athletes captured gold and three others medaled
at the recent 2005 Special Olympic Winter Games in Big Bear.
Heather Loughery, 25, led the local contingent with a pair of gold
medals. Loughery won the Alpine Slalom and Alpine Downhill events and
finished second in the Alpine Giant Slalom event.
The top three finishers in each event received medals and athletes
who finished in fourth through sixth place earned a ribbon.
Below is a listing of how Surf City athletes fared, by division,
at the Winter Olympics:
Alpine
Heather Loughery, 25: Giant Slalom, second place; Slalom, first
place; Downhill, first place.
Lianne Dailey, 32: Slalom, first place; Downhill, fourth place;
Giant Slalom, second place.
Jennifer Gibson, 26: Downhill, third place; Slalom, second place;
Giant Slalom, fourth place.
Scott McCall, 23: Downhill, second place; Giant Slalom, second
place; Slalom, second place.
Evan Moffett, 24: Giant Slalom, fifth place; Slalom, third place.
Alin Silcock, 11: Downhill, first place.
Cross Country
Dennis Louie, 26: 1k Skiing-Freestyle, third place; 500m
Skiing-Freestyle, first place; 100m Skiing-Classic, third place.
Jenny Skinner, 34: 500m Skiing-Freestyle, first place; 3k
Skiing-Freestyle, second place; 1k Skiing-Freestyle, second place.
