SECOND TUSKEGEE
AIRMEN LUNCHEON FRIDAY
OCC will host its second Tuskegee Airmen of World War II Tribute
Luncheon on Friday.
The luncheon begins at noon at the Captain’s Table. Proceeds will
be used to establish a scholarship for OCC aviation students in the
name of the Tuskegee Airmen. Proceeds will also support the Aviation
Explorers, a program at Compton Airport for youngsters.
The Tuskegee Airmen were dedicated and determined young black men
who enlisted in the military during World War II to become America’s
first black military airmen. They trained at Tuskegee Army Air Field
in Tuskegee, Ala., and served their country with distinction.
The special honored guest will be Lt. Col. Lee Archer, who flew
169 combat missions for the Tuskegee Airmen over Europe from 1943 to
1945. A member of the 332nd Fighter Group, Archer shot down five
enemy fighters. He brought down a German ME-262 jet while flying a
piston-engine P-51 Mustang. The New Rochelle, N.Y., resident was
awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and 12 Air Medals.
For information about the luncheon, call (714) 432-5707.
