ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IDOL
The Newport-Mesa Unified School District will hold an “Elementary
Music Showcase,” spotlighting the best singers and instrumentalists
in kindergarten through sixth grade on Tuesday at Lincoln Elementary
School, 3101 Pacific View Drive, Newport Beach. The free event will

ART IN A PUBLIC PLACE
Watch support for art and science education take wing Tuesday when
the city of Costa Mesa reveals two butterfly sculptures that are part
of KOCE-TV’s Butterfly Initiative, a program aiming to establish an
endowment to fund education in the arts and sciences in Orange
County. The sculptures were painted by Donna Robb, a member of the
city’s Cultural Arts Committee, and local artist Harvey Clemans. They
will be shown at 5 p.m. in front of the City Council chambers at 77
Fair Drive.
A WEEKEND ON THE GREENS
Tournament play for the Toshiba Senior Classic will open Friday as
defending champion Tom Purtzer and 77 other golfers begin competition
for the $1.65-million purse. Play is set to begin at about 8 a.m. at
the Newport Beach Country Club, 1600 East Coast Highway. One-day
tickets will cost $20, and the event will be broadcast from 2 to 4:30
p.m. on the Golf Channel on Friday through Sunday.
