Sawdust’s ‘Spring into Art’ classes
Sawdust Art Festival’s “Spring Into Art” weekend art workshops
will begin Saturday and continue Sunday, March 19 and 20.
The fifth annual art workshops are for people of all levels of
experience taught by professional Sawdust Art Festival exhibiting
artists.
Class options include silk painting taught by Olivia Batchelder;
watercolor by Hedy Buzan-Williamson; impressional oil by John Eagle;
Chinese brush painting flowers and also landscapes by Karen Mills;
landscapes in oil by Susan Wade; create with clay by Sherry Bullard;
printmaking by Melinda Jones; crocheting by Arlyth Atkinson; soulful
creativity doll workshop by Cherril Doty; vintage China mosaics by
Ashley Pigden-Hemsley; Roberta Goodman will teach beading and wire
wrapping; and Loren Chapman glass blowing. Michele Taylor and Grace
Barrack will teach a combination class with Taylor focusing on glass
sand casting and Barrack bead fabricating for jewelry.

Arts Commission Banner Competition
The Arts Commission is accepting designs for its annual banner
competition with a deadline at 4 p.m. today. Artists are provided
with banner material to paint an original work. These 4- by 16-feet
canvas banners are hung Downtown for the summer.
Orange County residents only. Submit a color design, two maximum,
that is drawn to scale. The banner must have design on both sides.

Laguna Outreach’s art workshop today
Laguna Outreach Community Arts “Art Escapes” workshop will be the
second of a three-part ceramic workshop series, “Creativity with
Clay,” taught by esteemed artist Sherry Bullard from 1:45 to 4 p.m.
today. The class is suitable for all artistic levels. Cost is $30,
including materials; class size limited. The workshop is at the

Woman’s Club art show application
The Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach is accepting applications from
local women artists who want to exhibit their work in the Woman’s
Club’s fourth annual Art Show. The deadline to apply is today. The

Senior art workshops hit Laguna Beach
A new “Art Escapes” has been created for seniors from 9:30 to
11:30 a.m. Fridays at the Women’s Club, 286 St Ann’s Drive. Today’s
workshop is “Stencil a Canvas Tote.”
Cost is $7 for those older than 62, including materials. Class

‘Art That’s Small at City Hall’ deadline
The Arts Commission is accepting entries for its fourth annual
“Art That’s Small at City Hall” competition from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
March 26 at the council chambers, 505 Forest Ave. The competition is
open to all Orange County residents. Works must be no longer than 12
inches along any edge including the frame and 3 inches in depth. One
entry only with a $15 entry fee. First place receives $350, second
place $200, third place $50 and $50 for the City Hall choice winner.
The works will be exhibited March 28 through April 29 with an awards
ceremony and reception from 5 to 6 p.m. April 7. For information,

‘Color It Orange’ at Laguna College
This year will mark the 31st anniversary of Laguna College of Art
and Design’s “Color It Orange” exhibit, Orange County’s most
extensive art exhibition by youth.
“Color It Orange” is an annual juried youth art exhibition of
countywide schools for students in Kindergarten through grade 12. For

New Outreach art and sea program
Laguna Outreach for Community Arts is introducing a new program,
“Art and Sea Adventures: The Art of Tide-Pooling,” in collaboration
with the Ocean Laguna Foundation.
The program includes a morning of tide pool exploration with Ocean
Laguna Foundation docents followed by a hands-on watercolor journal
art workshop taught by Laguna Outreach for Community Arts resource
artists.
The program includes a watercolor journal, art supplies,
postcards, tote bag, refreshments and more, courtesy of Montage
Resort and Spa.
Classes are available Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
on March 19 and 20; April 16 and 17; and May 14 and 15. Meet at
Treasure Island Park, South entrance at S. Coast Highway at Wesley
Drive, at the South edge of the Montage Resort, just below the
parking lot.
Cost is $65 for adults and $35 for kids under 13. Reservations are

‘Voodoo’ at Ocean Avenue Brewery
Laguna based ZUMA Press is exhibiting “Vivid Voodoo,” by
photojournalist Les Stone, a photographic display of Haiti’s religion
-- rituals, sacrifice, possession and love -- at Ocean Avenue
Brewery, 237 Ocean Ave.
Stone, a ZUMA news photographer, has traveled to Haiti more than
30 times in 10 years. His work captures first-hand Haitian voodoo
ceremonies and practices.

‘Late Nite Catechism’ extended
As a result of continued popular demand, the Laguna Playhouse, 606
Laguna Canyon Road, will extend its run of “Late Nite Catechism”
through June 20, for the 13th time.
The two-act solo performance features “Sister” giving instruction
to a roomful of “students” (the audience.) For information, call

Sculpture Competition
The Laguna Beach Arts Commission is holding a sculpture
competition to add to the City’s public art collection. The
competition location is for the Village Green Park at the corner of
Monterey St. and Catalina Ave. The subject should be inspired by
nature, figurative and visually appealing to children. A vertical
orientation is recommended. The piece must be no larger than 5-feet
wide and deep by a maximum of 7-feet tall. It should not have any
element that would entice a child to climb it or pose any other
safety concerns. Only original artwork should be submitted.
Honorarium is $10,000. Deadline is April 29. For information or an
