Officer injured in tussle with man
Police officers were engaged in a physical fight and one sustained
minor injuries while trying to take a man into custody who was
reportedly harassing families with small children Saturday afternoon
at Main Beach, police said.
Ronald Adrian, 44, head-butted an officer who was trying to quiet
him down after Adrian threatened at least one person and challenged
another to a fight, police said.
Police responded to a call from the children’s playground at Main
Beach at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, after Adrian had reportedly been
bothering families with children, Sgt. Darin Lenyi of the Laguna
Beach Police Department said.
One woman told police that Adrian approached her and said, “In two
minutes I can rip your eyes out of your skull,” police said. The
woman took her 2- and 4-year-old, who were playing nearby, and left
the area, police said. Another witness told police the man tried to
engage him in a fight.
Once officers were able to control Adrian, he was taken into
custody and arrested on the suspicion of battering a police officer
and challenging people to a fight, Lenyi said.
The officer who was head-butted during the arrest suffered minor
injuries, Lenyi said.
Man lost in wilderness park
It took nearly four hours for police to locate a man who was lost
in the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park on Sunday night, police said.
The man called police and said he had been hiking with a friend
when the friend left him and he got lost around 8 p.m., police said.
The man said he could see the Foothill Corridor but did not know what
trail he was on or how to get down, police said.
After hours of searching, an Orange County Sheriff’s helicopter
finally located the man using infrared technology at 11:25 p.m.,
police said. Laguna Beach lifeguards were then able to reach the man
and bring him back safely, police said.
Trash truck takes out communications lines
Periodic blink-outs were reported Monday in an area surrounding
Summit Drive as lights and computers reportedly blinked on and off
for less than a minute.
“A trash truck hit a communications line and broke it off, and the
hot line was about six feet off the ground, cutting power for about
30 seconds,” Greg Cladopulus, of the Edison Company said. The second
blink-out came when the line was de-energized to clear the problem.
Residential power came back on by itself.
