The Laguna Beach Club Water Polo 12-and-under team rolled past rivals

Corona del Mar and Irvine in youth water polo weekend action.

After defeating Corona del Mar, 18-13, in a six-period exhibition

match, Laguna came back to defeat Corona del Mar again, this time by

a 20-3 score.

Laguna jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead behind goals by

Jessie Shushko and Jessie Holecheck, then extended its advantage to

8-1 after two quarters.

Holecheck, Ana Carrete, Etianne Manetta and Kaitlyn Waidley all

scored in the quarter.

Melena Masson scored twice in the third quarter to make it 14-3.

Two goals by Emily Rubino and one each by Manetta, Waidley,

Carrete and Danielle Ducharme, closed out Laguna’s scoring.

Laguna followed Saturday’s triumph over Corona del Mar with a 15-0

rout of Irvine on Sunday.

Holecheck, Ducharme, Carrete, Manetta, Rubino and Melena Masson

and Yoshi Anderson all scored in the match.

In other club water polo action:

14-and-under Division

Laguna Beach 15, Irvine 2

Laguna rolled from the start in handing Irvine a lopsided defeat.

Hannah Fait led Laguna’s potent offensive attack with four goals,

and Ari Palmer and Taylor Dodson posted three more.

Lexy Ross scored twice and single goals went to Dylan Conroy,

Kacky Brown and Addie Rubino.

Laguna Beach 5, Corona del Mar 5

Ari Palmer scored two goals as Laguna earned a tie.

Madison Duncan opened up the scoring for Laguna with a second

quarter goal, which was followed by consecutive goals by Palmer.

Annika Dries netted another goal just before the third quarter

buzzer sounded, and Taylor Dodson closed out Laguna’s scoring with a

goal 5:30 into the fourth quarter.

10-and-under Division

Laguna Beach 10, Newport Beach 3

Laguna opened up a 5-1 halftime lead and extended its advantage to

10-2 through three quarters in rolling past Newport.

Trevor Collins led Laguna with a match-best four goals.

Cade Montgomery, Caleb Scott and Robert Clemons each scored twice.

Los Alamitos 11, Laguna Beach 5

Laguna fell behind, 5-2, after the first quarter, and couldn’t

recover.

Robert Clemons scored three goals and Cade Montgomery and Trevor

Collins each scored once.

Laguna Beach 9, Irvine 3

In shutting out Irvine in the first and fourth quarters, Laguna

rolled to its second victory of the week.

Six Laguna players scored, led by three goals by Collins.

Nick Channels scored twice and Montgomery, Clemons, Rickie Scott

and Trent Sadler all scored once.
