Here are some items the Planning Commission considered Thursday.

ANTHONY’S RESTAURANT USE

Anthony’s Riverboat Restaurant, which shares space with the

Newport Harbor Nautical Museum on a boat near West Coast Highway and

Dover Drive, will continue to use decks on the boat’s third level.

When the Planning Commission in 2001 approved the restaurant’s use of

the upper decks for events, it set various conditions to diminish

noise to neighbors and planned to check on the restaurant’s

compliance.

WHAT IT MEANS

The restaurant’s use of the upper decks will not be subject to

further review by the commission, unless the decision can be appealed

to the City Council by March 17.

RUDY’S PUB REMODELING

A makeover of Rudy’s Pub and Grill will include a retractable

roof, outdoor patios and second-floor office space now that the

commission has approved a new permit for the restaurant and bar on

Newport Boulevard at 31st Street.

WHAT IT MEANS

To address concerns about noise from the pub, the commission said

live entertainment can only be offered until 10 p.m., and the retractable roof must also close at that time. Outdoor patio space

will be available until 1 a.m.

The decision also can be appealed to the council through March 17.
