Performance schedule released
The Orange County Performing Arts Center announced its 2005-06 lineup
for its concert, jazz club and cabaret series.
Five Founders Hall debuts highlight the Concert Series, including
the Vienna Piano Trio, Philharmonia Quartett Berlin, Belcea String
Quartet, violinist Sergey Khachatryan with pianist Lusine
Khachatryan, and L’Ensemble Pennetier. The six-time Grammy
Award-winners Emerson String Quartet performs Jan. 15, 2006.
The concert series kicks off Aug. 10 with the return of the
Australian Chamber Orchestra, featuring lead violinist Richard
Tognetti and pianist Angela Hewitt, a Johann Sebastian Bach
specialist.
Seventeen-year-old Eldar Djangirov from Kyrgyzstan begins the jazz
club series with performances by his trio on Sept. 16 and 17.
Eight-time Grammy winners the Wynton Marsalis Septet, which helped
open the Center’s first jazz series in November 1987, returns on March 17, 2006.
The Jazz Club Series ends with a tribute to Miles Davis, including
original “Kind of Blue” drummer Jimmy Cobb, on May 5 and 6, 2006.
Musical theater legend Betty Buckley makes her cabaret series
debut at Founders Hall from Nov. 1 through 5. The Tony-award-winning
singer was in the original Broadway production of “Cats.”
