Shepherd cemetery
The council will hear an appeal from the Orange County Catholic
Diocese over a recent Planning Commission approval of the Good
Shepherd Cemetery expansion.
Church officials want to build a three-story, 85,000-square-foot
mausoleum, a 10,000-square-foot maintenance facility and a series of
one-story garden crypts to run along the perimeter of the property.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Planning Commission’s approval of the project included some
changes to the cemetery’s drainage system that Diocese officials say
will be very difficult to manage.
The Diocese and the planning staff are asking the council to
discard the draining requirements.
Emergency and fire aid
Fire Chief Duane Olsen is asking the council to approve an
agreement between the Huntington Beach Fire Department and the Orange
County Fire Authority for mutual aid during emergencies.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The deal would allow both agencies to respond to a fire, rescue or
emergency medical incident within the jurisdictional limits of the
other party. Under the deal, the Huntington Beach Fire Department
will provide ambulance service to some residents in the
unincorporated areas of Sunset Beach.
RV ordinance on streets
The City Council will consider implementing an RV ordinance
restricting the amount of time residents can park an RV on city
streets.
The new ordinance would require RV owners to obtain a free permit
from the police department to park their RV on city streets. RVs
could be parked on city streets for 16 days a month with no limit on
continuity.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The draft of this ordinance was approved at the Feb. 22 meeting
and will likely be given the green light again.
