Here are some items the Planning Commission will consider tonight.

ANTHONY’S RESTAURANT USE

The Newport Harbor Nautical Museum shares space with Anthony’s

Riverboat Restaurant on a boat near West Coast Highway and Dover

Drive. When the Planning Commission in 2001 approved the use of the

boat’s third-level decks for events, it required the restaurant’s

permit to be reviewed for compliance with several conditions.

The commission will hold a public hearing on whether the use of

the upper decks has followed the city’s guidelines.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The staff recommendation is to continue the permit because no

residents have filed complaints about the restaurant in the past two

years, and nothing else indicates it is detrimental to the

neighborhood.

RUDY’S PUB REMODELING

The owner of Rudy’s Pub and Grill plans to add a retractable roof,

outdoor patio and second-floor office space and open patios to the

restaurant at Newport Boulevard and 31st Street. The redesign will

result in the loss of one parking space, leaving 27 spots for cars.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Staff members have recommended approving the project, though they

suggested that the hours for using the patio be restricted to ensure

noise from the restaurant doesn’t disturb neighbors.
