Church to discuss parking proposal
Two informational meetings to discuss a $3.5-million parking proposal
for Newport Harbor High School will be held by St. Andrews
Presbyterian Church officials Tuesday. The church is seeking a
30-year agreement with the Newport-Mesa Unified School District to
share parking at the high school. In exchange, the church would spend
$3.5 million to reconfigure the school’s parking lot, and to pay for
other projects at the school’s discretion if money was left over.
A parking agreement was one condition of the city Planning
Commission’s approval of a controversial church expansion project,
but the church has said it will seek the parking pact even without
the still-pending expansion. The meetings will be Tuesday at 10 a.m.
at the church, 600 St. Andrews Road, Newport Beach, and at 7 p.m. in
Portable 9 at Newport Harbor High School, 600 Irvine Ave., Newport
Beach.
