Laguna Canyon Road closure
Laguna Canyon Road between El Toro Road and the San Diego Freeway
(405) remains closed due to flooding on the roadway. Caltrans closed
a portion of Laguna Canyon Road on Saturday at 11 a.m. and will not
re-open the road until water recedes, according to a representative.
Laguna Beach police have established a traffic information
telephone line to provide the public with information on road
conditions. The automated system is updated frequently and the police
department encourages the public to call this phone number for up to
the minute information on road closures or traffic conditions: (949)
497-0747.
Accident closes off highway
At least one lane of Coast Highway remained closed Monday for four
hours after a car struck a telephone pole at N. Coast Highway and El
Morro, police said.
Denise Rehe, 43, of Laguna Beach, was driving a red 1992 Lexus at
10:19 a.m. when she hit a patch of mud and water on the roadway, said
Traffic Sgt. Jason Kravetz.
The car spun around and the rear end of the car hit a telephone
pole near the El Morro Trailer Park, Kravetz said. The crash caused
major damage to the car and Rehe was transported to Hoag hospital
with back pain, Kravetz said.
The accident was not immediately cleared because police and fire
units were swamped with weather-related calls, Kravetz said.
“All departments were pretty much maxed out,” Kravetz said.
The area where the accident occurred is in the jurisdiction of the
California Highway Patrol, but they had no available units, Kravetz
said. Laguna Beach Police and Newport Beach Fire responded initially,
police said.
