Laguna eligible for reimbursement

Laguna Beach is eligible for reimbursement from the federal

government for most of the cost of repairs following the record

storms that struck Southern California in early January.

The city escaped serious harm, despite record rainfall, said City

Manager Kenneth Frank.

“We were very lucky,” Frank said.

Frank said the city spent $30,000 to repair the Main Beach

boardwalk, where cobblestones had to be shored up with a mixture of

tar and cement.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to reimburse

the city for 75 % of that cost, Frank said.

FEMA also will reimburse the city for overtime paid to city

employees handling storm-related issues.

In addition, the city may be able to obtain funds from the state

that would bring the reimbursement total up to 87%, but Frank said

the state’s fiscal situation may not allow that.
