FESTIVAL OF ARTS SUBMISSIONS

Artists are invited to submit work for exhibition at this summer’s

Festival of Arts now through Feb. 28. All submissions and a complete

application must be accompanied by proof of local residence. The cost

SATURDAY

PEACE VIGIL

The Laguna Beach Peace Vigil will meet every Saturday from 11 a.m.

to 1 p.m. at Main Beach. The group seeks nonviolent answers to global

STONE CARVING CLASS

Master stone carvers Marvin Johnson and Joseph Sovella will teach

a stone carving class from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays through March

10 at the Laguna College of Art and Design, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road.

No prior experience is necessary and all skill levels are welcome.

GET FUNNY

A comedy workshop taught by Laguna’s own Lynn Epstein, will be

held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the True Colors

Entertainment Company, 2825 Laguna Canyon Road. Epstein will teach

participants how to write and perform comedy, and the seventh class

will showcase the class participants in a local live comedy show.

BACKCOUNTRY HIKE

A backcountry hike will be held at 9 a.m. at Crystal Cove State

Park. Hikers should meet at the El Morro Visitor Center flagpole.

PARK VOLUNTEER COURSE

A Wilderness Access Volunteer training course will be held from 9

to 11 a.m. at the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park Nature Center, 20101

Laguna Canyon Road. The training will provide knowledge about the

park’s history and how to assist the park’s visitors. No experience

is necessary and anyone who loves nature is encouraged to apply.

TRAIL RESTORATION DAY

Everyone is invited to join park volunteers in restoring park

hiking trails, removing nonnative plants and assisting in planting

from 8 a.m. to noon at the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, 20101 Laguna

Canyon Road. Volunteers should bring gloves, hat, sunscreen, shovel

and sturdy shoes. Refreshments will be provided and all volunteers

will receive a free “Keep it Wild” T-shirt provided by the Laguna

SUNDAY

ADULT BASKETBALL

The public is invited to play ball at Laguna Beach High School.

Full-court pick-up games are played in the school’s gym from 9 a.m.

to noon Sundays. Many former high school and college players

participate. The games are sponsored by the city’s recreation

department. Cost is $2 at the door.

ARCHITECTURE LECTURE

The Laguna Beach Transcendental Meditation program will host a

lecture on Maharishi Vedic Architecture at 7:30 p.m. at the home of

Lawrence and Louis Allison, 776 Barracuda Way. Guest speaker and

civil engineer Chris Adamson will speak about this ancient tradition

ADULT LEARNING PROGRAM

The Laguna Beach Unified School District Adult Program for

learning English as a second language will be held from 5:30 to 8:30

p.m., Mondays to Thursdays in Room 90 at 550 Bluemont St. The class

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will welcome anyone dealing with grief

and loss in a new support group. The group will meet at 7 p.m. on

BIBLE STUDY

Word Study Laguna Beach, a community nondenominational,

nonexclusive Bible study, will hold meetings at noon at the Calvary

Evangelical Free Church. Word Study Laguna Beach is an independent

ministry of Word Study International and meets weekly from noon to 1

DISCUSS WORLD AFFAIRS

The Laguna Beach chapter of the League of Women Voters and the

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship invite the public to discuss world

affairs from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Unitarian

TAX ASSISTANCE

The Laguna Beach Senior Center will offer free tax preparation and

assistance from 9 a.m. to noon every Wednesday and Thursday from

through April 14 at the Laguna Beach Senior Center, 384 Legion St.

Volunteer counselors are trained by the Internal Revenue Service will

staff a tax counseling desk to provide free assistance.
