A flu-decimated Edison High wrestling team still had enough fight in

it at Saturday’s CIF-Southern Section Division I Dual Championships

at Esperanza High.

Edison entered the meet as the No. 3 seed. The Chargers, wrestling

without three members who were out with the flu, won two matches

before falling to San Clemente in the semifinals.

Garrett Drucker (119 pounds), Dylan Jensen (130) and Stephan Holmquist (215) were held out of the meet due to the flu. As a

result, the Chargers had to forfeit those weight classes and started

each dual meet with a 24-0 deficit.

Still, the Sunset League champion won its first-round match

Saturday, routing Sea View League runner-up Irvine, 52-24. The

Chargers next took care of Sierra League champion, Ayala, 42-30, to

advance to the semifinals.

In the final four, Edison fell to South Coast League winner San

Clemente, 53-13. Brandon Drucker won by pin at 135 pounds, Jimmy

Hynes won by major decision at 160 pounds and Jake Pinkham won by

decision at 189 pounds for the Chargers.

During Edison’s three matches, Pinkham, Hynes and Brandon Drucker

each went 3-0 overall.

Romni Fuga (heavyweight) and Nick Abraham (140) both went 2-1,

each recording a pair of first period pins. Chris Chacon (112), Corey

Tull (119) and Joe Hirsch (125) each finished the meet with a 2-1

record.

Eight-time CIF-SS champion Temecula Valley, which won the

Southwestern League crown, won its third consecutive division title

by hammering San Clemente in the final, 48-9. Temecula Valley and San

Clemente were the tournament’s top two seeds.

Edison will play host Friday and Saturday to the CIF Southern

Section Individual Coastal Division Championships. Competition begins

Friday at noon and runs through the evening.

The tournament continues Saturday, with action beginning at 9 a.m.

and running all day.
