Vanguard rips Warriors
Point guard Lisa Faulkner tallied her ninth double-double of the
season with 18 points and 12 assists while teammate Kelly Schmidt
scored 18 points to pace the host Vanguard University women’s
basketball team to an 88-44 Golden State Athletic Conference victory
over Westmont Tuesday.
The Lions, who slipped to No. 2 in the NAIA Division I ranks
following last week’s two-point loss against Point Loma, hit 14 of 30
from three-point range (46.7%), including five from Faulkner and four
from Lacey Mills (12 points). Melissa Cook added 16 points and six
rebounds off the bench while Lacey Burns chipped in 10 points and
four assists for Vanguard (23-3, 14-2 in the GSAC), which retains
sole possession of the conference lead.

4-0 this season with a 9-0 victory over host The Master’s College
Tuesday. Leslie Woods and Amy Brown didn’t lose a game in sweeping
their singles matches while VU senior captain Alena Votavova and
freshman Olivia Amstad teamed for an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles.
