Here are some issues the planning commission will consider tonight.
SUBDIVISION OF RED HILL AVENUE LOT
Danjon Engineering wants to subdivide an 11-acre Red Hill Avenue
property into three separate parcels to correspond with the three
office buildings there. The three lots would still share driveways
and parking, but the parking is expected to be sufficient for certain
office uses such as data processing and research and development.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Because the subdivision of the property is not likely to mean more
intense use of the property, staff members recommend approving the
request.
PARKING FOR PAUL MITCHELL ACADEMY
The shopping center at Harbor Boulevard and Adams Avenue that
includes the Paul Mitchell Academy was not built with the required
amount of parking, and people using the center have overflowed onto
nearby residential streets, causing neighbors to complain. The
academy wants to solve the problem by sharing parking with the First
Church of Christ, Scientist, on Mesa Verde Drive East. The church
will offer the school 50 of its 100 parking spaces for students to
use.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Planning staff members are recommending approval of a permit for
the shared parking, and neighbors are likely to support anything that
will get nonresidents’ cars off their streets.
MARTIAL ARTS STUDIO
Grace Lane would become the home of a new martial arts studio if
the commission approves a permit to operate the studio in an
industrial zone. Classes would be offered on weekday evenings and on
Saturdays, and part of the building would be used for a consulting
and bookkeeping business the studio’s operator also runs.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Because the existing parking seems adequate and there is a wall
along the property buffering nearby residences from noise or traffic
from the studio, staff members recommend approval.
