Storm to bring less than an inch of rain, forecast says
Andrew Edwards
Forecasters predicted a break in the recent spate of sun and pleasant
weather and announced that a minor storm will drop rain over
Newport-Mesa today and Saturday.
Noel Isla, a forecaster for the National Weather Service, said to
expect an inch or less.
The strom is not expected to be as severe as the one that hit
Southern California in early January, when five days of bad weather
dumped more than 4 inches of rain near Newport-Mesa between Jan. 7
and 11. The rain, combined with a high tide, led to flooding on
Balboa Peninsula on Jan. 10.
Newport Beach officials aren’t worried about another overflow,
General Services Manager Dave Niederhaus said.
City officials don’t have plans to distribute sandbags today.
“We really only do that for strong weather,” he said.
