Pharmaceutical company buys firm

Costa Mesa-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals International announced

Wednesday the purchase of San Diego-based Xcel Pharmaceuticals.

The purchase enables Valeant to develop retigabine, an epilepsy

drug the firm expects to have on the market by 2009, company

officials said.

Valeant announced the firm would pay $280 million in cash or $230

million and $50 million in stock for Xcel.

Both companies’ boards of directors gave unanimous support for the

deal. Valeant trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker

VRX.

Koll buys business

park in Riverside

The Koll Company, a Newport Beach real estate firm, announced its

purchase of Hunter Business Park, a 106,782-square-foot industrial

property in Riverside on Tuesday.

The Newport firm plans to manage and lease the 20-unit industrial

park, which was purchased for $8 million from Hunter Business Park,

LLC, which is partnered with S.V.N. Equities in Irvine.

A Newport Beach interior design and planning company announced

Monday that a man won a trip to Ireland after demonstrating his

Pac-Man skills.

The winner, Matt Herbers, employed by Argent Mortgage Corp. in

Orange, scored 31,000 points at H. Hendy Associates 25th anniversary

celebration, dubbed “Past Present and Future.”
