Celtics victorious
The National Junior Basketball Newport-Mesa fifth/sixth grade girls
Celtics defeated Wango Tango, 28-23, Sunday with Saylor Schroff
scoring a game-high 12 points.
Agelique Plecas added eight points, Sara Silverman had four for
the Celtics, while Sanna Taskinen, Taya Winkle and Niki Zak led the
defense.
Taleen Shrikian had 10 points for Wango and Marissa Hergott added
seven. Sarah Cox played a strong game in the post.
* Mustangs 33, Storm 29
Samantha Archie scored 14 points to lead the Mustangs to a 33-29
overtime victory over the Storm. Ricki Archie hit two free-throws
with 13 seconds remaining to cap a Mustangs’ comeback and send the
game into overtime. Nicole Perrier and Ari Gushue each scored four
points for the Mustans.
Sylvie Reynolds led the Spirit with 12 points and Asia Andry had
seven.
* Aqua Nets 33, Storm 28
The Aqua Nets notched their first victory of the year with a 22-28
victory over the Storm. Ava Soleimany had a game-high 19 points,
while Yasmine Izadi added six. Gabby Rapp (11 points) and Duran Sharp
(eight) led the Storm scoring.
* Rim Rattlers 25, Epics 22
The Rim Rattlers used an 11-point scoring effort from Marie Fitch
and six points each from Amanda Parrill and Taylor Stefano to secure
a 25-22 victory over the Epics. Natalie Barbaresi, Taylor Lipman and
Caroline Grant led the Epics.
In boys third/fourth grade play:
* Cavaliers 43, Kings 26
The NJB Division III third/fourth grade Cavaliers defeated the
Kings, 43-26, with all eight Cavaliers’ players scoring. Connor Kelly
scored 18 points, Sam Sykes had seven, Rusty Padia had six and Tommy
Padia had five. Arian Younessi, Trent Dill, Ricky Nadal and alec
Taketa all scored for the Cavaliers.
Max Stone and Matt Hurst paced the Kings.
