Mesa’s Booth sets up for a chip
Chipping from a closely mowed surface: For a ball sitting on a
slightly uphill lie, use the same stroke as if you were putting. The
ball should be played more forward in the stance and the stroke
should be straight back and then forward. If the ball is slightly
buried, or sits on a downhill lie, place ball further back in the
stance with the hands forward at address. Clubs ranging from a 4-iron
to a sand wedge can be used with this shot. But use the same
technique no matter the club. Booth uses a reverse overlap grip --
the same for putting -- on these chips.
