UCI makes proposal for courthouse
UC Irvine made a bid Monday to state court officials to have an
appellate courthouse built on campus near the University Research
Park, university Executive Vice Chancellor Michael Gottfredson said.
The proposal made to the Judicial Council of California suggested
a 2.5-acre site fronting California Avenue, Gottfredson said, but he
did not have detailed information on the cost of the courthouse.
University officials think an appellate courthouse would be a
resource for students and faculty members, and it fits with the
school’s desire to establish a law school, a request that is pending
with the UC board of regents, Gottfredson said.
The city of Santa Ana also has made a bid for the new courthouse.
