Truck tips near school
A cement truck overturned on Newport Coast Drive slowed down
parents trying to pick up students from Newport Coast Elementary
School Wednesday, police said.
The truck was turning from Ridge Park Road onto Newport Coast
Drive, but the driver turned too quickly and tipped over the truck,
crushing a curb in the median and reducing traffic to one lane
between 10:20 a.m. and 2:04 p.m. The driver bumped his head but did
not go to the hospital, and no cars were involved in the accident,
fire officials said.
In another school incident, Newport Beach firefighters were called
to Ensign Middle School at 12:51 p.m. Wednesday on what was thought
to be a fire but turned out to be a smoke-producing science
experiment. No students were hurt, and the school did not have to be
evacuated.
